Now Open

new bar small1

Since the tragic fire at The Bell Inn in January the trustees of the Allardice Hall along with Mike and Rachel Sanders from The Bell have been working to create new facilities in the hall for a temporary but comfortable place for locals and visitors to meet for a drink. This is now open.

The hall licence has been extended for the sale of alcohol and the insurance adjusted. With the help of a grant from Parkham Parish Council and funds from the Allardice Hall the project is now complete and opened on Friday 28th April. The bar will be open on three evenings a week until the Bell re-opens time and dates may vary to fit in with hall bookings but these will be well advertised.

Future dates will be advertised in The Journal, the Parkham website, the village notice board and The Pie.

The name of the bar was chosen by Mike and Rachel from a number of suggestions and came from an idea of Emma Beer.

Mike and Rachel (and the trustees of the hall) look forward to welcoming you at The Inn Over The Road.

A message to the community from Michael, Rachel, Adam and Jasmine Sanders

Bell Inn 2

17th February 2017

We would like to thank everyone in the community for their help, support and kind words following the tragic fire at The Bell Inn on Monday 13th February. We have been overwhelmed by the amount of help and gestures of assistance that have been given to us at this sad time and appreciate the support that you have given us. The good news is that we all made it out safely, including Bella our dog and George the cat (who went missing for several days after the fire but is back now) The bad news is we have temporarily lost our home and business We are in temporary accommodation at Penhaven for the time being until we can find more permanent accommodation suitable for us, including Bella and George.

The road outside The Bell in Rectory Lane will be closed for several days after the fire had been extinguished because some parts of the structure were dangerous and will need to be removed carefully. Once this has been completed the road will be open again.

It is still very early days and we are still gathering our thoughts about the best way forward for us and the village. We intend to re-build the pub and are very keen to get it up and running again as soon as possible, as I am sure all of you are too. There are professionals now involved in starting the process of sorting things out and moving forward in the rebuilding. At present there is a security fence around the property but this will be replaced by more permanent scaffolding covered with plastic sheeting to fully protect the building from the elements and keep the cob dry. As you will appreciate the building is very old and also listed, so it will be a slow process to ensure that the building is lovingly restored to its former glory and character.

We have several bookings throughout the remainder of the year and these booking will be honoured. We were fortunate in that we have all our outside catering equipment, which was stored off site and we will be able to use this. The Tractor Run on Sunday 19th March will be at the Allardice Hall and the annual Bell Inn Parkham Beer festival which is in July will also be held at the Allardice Hall together with the usual hog roast, live band and usual fun.

We are currently exploring a few possibilities of locations that we could use to get us up and running in the meantime, so that the community has somewhere to come and meet with some sort of temporary bar area and an area to allow us to serve food too. This will probably be only a few days of the week until we see how it works. Further information to follow. Jasmine will post regular updates on Facebook and there will be regular updates on the Parkham Parish website. Parkham Pie will carry monthly updates as will the village notice board.

We all want to say again, a big thank you to everyone for their love and support at this tragic time and that we are glad we live in such a kind and supporting village as Parkham.
